Crossbow Expert lets you essentially attack twice with your hand crossbow, utilise Extra Attack because you now ignore loading and makes you more effective close quarters. Your first two ASIs should be the heart and soul of this build Crossbow Expert and Sharpshooter. Another idea is to go Eldritch Knight for Shield, but as a crossbow build (hence no booming blade) this feels rather lackluster. For your archetype, take Battlemaster for versatile manuevers, namely Precision Attack.
